It’s no secret that the spring was tough! Suddenly having your kids home all day and being in charge of their online learning was no picnic. I leaned on my oils to support myself and my kids more then ever during that time. No matter what your school situation is I’m excited to share how you can use them to support the whole family!
One of the biggest issue parents and kids face when doing online or home schooling is focus. My two favorite ways to manage this is to use our kids focus roller “Thinker” and have a combination of oils in the diffuser! Thinker was made to help kids focus! Perhaps yourself or your child(ren) have a hard time remaining on task. Maybe you need a boost when it’s time to pay attention. If you struggle with staying engaged or have difficulty transitioning, this blend is for you. Thinker includes Vetiver, Peppermint, Clementine, and Rosemary essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil. These oils which have proven to help with focus, combine to create a blend that promotes a stronger sense of concentration while limiting distractions.
My favorite oils to put in the diffuser to help with staying on task are wild orange, peppermint, rosemary and breathe blend! In one study using orange essential oil in the diffuser helped improve the participant’s ability to type. Students who smelled the orange oil also made less errors. Another study found that using wild orange oil helps to stimulate the brain and increases ability to focus on a single topic.
Rosemary is also helpful to diffuse when doing school work! A 2016 study found that students who worked in a space with rosemary oil diffusing scored 5 to 7 percent higher on memory tests. Get that rosemary in the diffuser!
Peppermint is also one of my favorite oils to use when doing any kind of task. It’s both uplifting and invigorating making it the perfect oil to diffuse in your or your child’s work space! Check out some of my favorite diffuser blends below for focusing:
What was most apparent to me during online schooling in the spring was how stressed kids were. Their world suddenly looked drastically different and whether they had the words or not to express it they were affected by it. Maybe you noticed your kids were crankier, or they were relying on technology to get through the day or they had sleep issues. Kids felt and are still feeling the stress of the situation. Luckily we have oils to help kids (an adults) develop self care routines and healthy coping strategies.
My favorite oils to help kids cope are our two kids blend Calmer and Brave. Calmer is a blend of oils such as Lavender, Cananga, Buddha Wood, and Roman Chamomile with Fractionated Coconut Oil. These oils help create a restful atmosphere and promote a positive mood for your child! Calmer was made to reduce feelings of stress and promote calm throughout the day. It also:
Brave is a blend of Wild Orange, Amyris, Osmanthus, and Cinnamon Bark combined in a roller with coconut oil. It’s great for you and your child to begin each day with confidence and belief by pairing this Blend with a positive affirmation. Some great ones to use for kids are “Today will be a great day” or “I am smart and happy and ready for a fun day”. Allow yourself to reset when experiencing feelings of doubt and stress throughout the day by rolling Brave onto the back of your neck and wrists.
When kids are stressed sleep is often one of the first things affected by it. We also know that sleep has a huge effect on our emotional wellness so it can be a vicious cycle! One thing I have heard over and over from my customers is that the diffuser in their child’s bedroom has drastically improved their child’s sleep. You can start with a few drops of lavender oil in the diffuser and in the bath before bed. I also love frankincense with lavender in the diffuser to help kids sleep.
A Lot of parents also find it helpful to have their little one use the calmer roller before going to sleep. Rolling Calmer onto the bottoms of feet and the back of the neck helps create a stress-free mood when tensions are high or before bed. Combining the soothing properties of Lavender, Cananga, Buddha Wood, and Roman Chamomile. Calmer includes oils that are helpful in creating a restful atmosphere, making it the perfect blend to help with sleep and stress. Some ways my family uses it is:
Now more then ever it’s important to have an immune support routine in place to help support your and your child’s immune system. Adults typically use onguard for this whether in the diffuser daily, topically on thier feet or even in a glass of water or veggie cap. For young children we also have our immune support blend called Stronger featuring Cedarwood, Litsea, Frankincense, and Rose. Some of ways we use Stonger is
We also diffuse onguard throughout the day especially with what’s going on right now!
The great thing about the kid’s collection is they all come in a super useful carrier case. Each oil has a silicone topper to attach to a backpack and flash cards on how to use them all! I’ve created a custom back to school (whatever school may look like) kit just for you with all the kids oils, a diffuser and two free oils (lavender for sleep and wild orange for focus). To grab this head over here!
This school year may be different then the past but it doesn’t have to be stressful. When we use oils and make them part of a daily routine everything in the house feels easier and kids feel calmer! While we can’t control what’s going on in the world we can control how we choose to react. We can give our children coping skills using oils to help them feel safer, calmer and empowered!
